Two Ways Equipment Causes Leaks
Curbs and support blocks under rooftop equipment wear holes into the roofing system over time as the unit settles or vibrates. Separately, poorly placed equipment or support blocks can accidentally dam water instead of letting it drain past — support blocks should run parallel to the direction water flows, not perpendicular to it.
Pipe boots and vent penetrations are smaller but just as common a failure point — the rubber or metal collar around a pipe degrades with age and UV exposure, and needs proper sealant application, not just a dollop of caulk dropped on top.
