Water Stain on the Ceiling But No Active Drip — Still a Problem?

Yes. A dry stain doesn’t mean the leak is gone — it usually means it hasn’t rained hard enough recently to reactivate it.

A stain that isn’t currently wet is common after the rain that caused it has passed. That doesn’t mean the underlying defect fixed itself. The same conditions that caused it — a marginal seam, a flashing gap — are still there, waiting for the next heavy rain.

This is actually a good time to get it looked at, before the next storm. Diagnosing a dry roof in dry weather is often easier and safer than trying to trace a leak during active rain.

Old stain, still worth checking?
