Interior closets and small rooms often show leaks that are genuinely hard to trace, because there’s no direct roof access above them.
A leak showing up in an interior space with no obvious roof feature above it (no skylight, no visible penetration) is one of the trickier ones to diagnose — exactly the situation where lateral water travel under the membrane is most likely to be the explanation, sometimes from a source ten or more feet away.
This is where careful measurement from the interior stain back to the roof, followed by a methodical check of nearby transitions, actually earns its keep. Guessing based on “it’s probably right above” is how these leaks get “repaired” without ever actually stopping.
