Roof Leak After a Windstorm: What to Check First
Wind damage on a flat roof often isn’t obvious from the ground — here’s what actually happens up there.
Strong wind can lift the edge of a membrane, especially at parapet walls or roof edges where the attachment is weakest. It doesn’t always tear the material outright — sometimes it just loosens a seam enough to let water in during the next rain, without any visible damage from below.
After a significant wind event, a visual check of the roof edges and any loose-looking sections is worth doing, ideally before the next rain rather than after a new leak shows up.
